A FAMILY event helped to get people in the Christmas spirit.

Hartlebury Castle hosted a special weekend of festive fun by holding a Christmas at the Castle event on Saturday and Sunday.

Among the highlights was an elf trail to Santa's grotto where youngsters received a present.

Pippa Ashmore, events officer said: "It has gone really well, and has helped to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

"We have got a good turnout as we do every year and I think people have enjoyed it."

Children also took part in a variety of craft activities including making Christmas tree decorations, designing a mosaic coaster, and writing a letter to Santa.

A number of stalls were open for business, selling possible Christmas gifts.

Celia Davies, who was selling a number of soaps, said: "This is the first time I have been to this event and I am really impressed.

"It is a really good way of getting your name out there and talking to people."

Michelle Bowers, who was visiting with her two children, from Bromsgrove said: "This is the first time we have been but we would definitely come again.

"We really enjoyed the Christmas story and the singing."

As part of the day, Arley Kings Hand Bell Ringers performed as well as the Wilden Concert Choir.

Noel and Carol Christmas were in the saloon for Christmas songs and a story.

There was also opportunities for kids to get their faces painted and to meet Joey the juggler.

In the Castle's Scullery, visitors helped make the pomanders and stirred the Christmas pudding with the housemaid.

The Castle Coachman was offering horse and carriage rides around the Carriage Circle, and the blacksmith was working away in the Forge.

Festive treats and homemade meals and snacks were also being served in the museum's cafe.
