A FRUSTRATED dog walker says she is fed up of finding piles of rubbish discarded around a city racecourse.

Sally Tyson, who lives in Barbourne, Worcester, has hit out at "lazy" litterbugs after noticing mounds of empty bottles, coffee cups and MacDonald's wrappers strewn around Pitchcroft.

The pet owner, who walks her dog Maisie around the racecourse every morning, believes the litter is being left by adult footballers who use the council-owned pitches on Sundays.

And she says the problem is so bad she has even started clearing up the rubbish herself in a bid to keep the area tidy.

However, a spokesman for Worcester City Council said it had not received any complaints about littering on Pitchcroft football pitches.

"It is always at the side of where they have been playing football," said Mrs Tyson, who has noticed the problem since September.

"There seems to be a huge amount of litter left which then gets blown around the race course. It is always after they have played.

"Before Christmas I was picking up their rubbish. There is a bin in the changing rooms. I have been in there probably about three times with their rubbish.

"I think it is complete laziness. It is just wrong. It just annoys me. Why can't grown men find a plastic bag to put their bottles in when they can put it all together?"

Tim Phillips, honorary secretary of the McDonald's Worcester and District Football League, invited Mrs Tyson to discuss the matter with him directly.

A spokesman for Worcester City Council said: "We are not aware of any recent complaints about litter being left at the Pitchcroft football pitches.

"We do have agreements in place with all the clubs that use the pitches, requiring them to clean up any litter before they leave. Anyone who does see litter that has not been disposed of properly should report it to us at worcester.gov.uk/report-it.”
