A HOLLYWOOD heartthrob has made a surprise donation to support children at a hospice in Worcester.

A-lister Tom Hardy donated £7,000 to Acorns Children's Hospice which has a hospice in Bath Road where it provides care for life limited and life threatened children.

Tom, who is currently starring in Saturday-night BBC drama Taboo and whose movie and television credits include The Revenant, Dark Knight Rises and Peaky Blinders, took part in a charity day organised by financial services company ICAP.

It saw Tom taking to the phones at the company offices, speaking directly to ICAP’s customers to close deals and boost trading volumes, raising funds for Acorns in the process.

Louise Arnold, director of income generation at Acorns, said: “Tom did an amazing job closing deals and we really appreciate his time and help raising funds and awareness for our work.

"We have to raise nearly £10 million every year to provide the complex range of services, care and support families rely on, so this donation will help make a real difference to families across the region.”

In the past year Acorns has provided care for more than 830 children and over 1,060 families, including those who are bereaved.

ICAP donates 100 per cent of revenues and brokers’ commissions from deals closed on its charity day and this year the initiative raised £8.2 million for good causes.
