Job seekers struggling to escape long-term unemployment can find help to get them back into work.

Volunteers from All Saints Church in Worcester are preparing to launch the city’s first Christians Against Poverty (CAP) job club on Thursday, January 26.

It will provide people with the skills and confidence they need to return to the workplace.

The course has already helped more than 1,000 people find work in 163 towns and cities across the country and is up to seven times more successful than some government-commissioned work schemes.

Job club manager, Neil Silverthorne, who will be leading the course, said: "Knowing many people are out of work and yet have talents and skills going to waste, we just felt we had to do something and CAP’s training and resources seemed like a really great fit for us.

"It’s about giving people back their pride.

"If you have been out of work for any length of time you don’t have a lot of that.

"Many of the people that attend a CAP job club are tired and frustrated."

The eight-week course provides those looking for work with essential skills and abilities, such as CV writing, interview technique and the value of volunteering.

Each person is also given one-to-one coaching to develop their strengths and identify other opportunities, such as volunteering or a college course.

The club will run weekly starting from Thursday, January 26 at 10.30am in St Helen’s Church, Fish Street, Worcester.
