GRAFFITI vandals have struck once again in Worcester.

The brazen vandals have left their graffiti tags opposite McDonald's in the busy heart of Worcester, leading to the hope that they may soon be identified on CCTV.

The damage caused by two 'prolific' graffiti vandals across Worcester may be well over £5,000 says an officer who is investigating the criminal damage.

This £5,000 threshold is significant as damage valued at over this amount can lead to a longer prison sentence (up to 10 years in prison).

One example of the graffiti has now been found in one of the busiest parts of the city, by the Subway store in Angel Street.

Other examples occur at New Street, Broad Street, Sansome Walk, Pheasant Street, Lowesmoor, City Walls Road, Shaw Street and Farrier Street.

Sgt Pete Frankish of West Mercia Police has been keeping a record of where the two tags appear in Worcester.

As previously reported the tags 'Asper' and 'Sark*' have appeared across Worcester city centre, often together, which suggests the two vandals are committing the damage together, as police launch an appeal to trace the culprits.

One is described as 5ft 11ins tall and was spotted wearing black jeans and a black hoodie which was white inside.

He was carrying a camouflage daysack, white trainers and, unusually (considering the image was taken at night), sunglasses.

The second is described as 5ft 8ins. He was spotted wearing a black jacket, black jeans and black footwear.

If the pair are caught they could be made to scrub off the graffiti or repaint the damaged areas which include walls and signs to make a public example of them.

Sgt Frankish took 62 photographs of the the tags overnight on Thursday to add to the other photographs already taken, some of which have been supplied to the Worcester News.

He said: "Many of the photographs have one or both of the names on.

"Places include New Street, The Shambles, Charles Street, Cheshire cheese alley, The Tything, Foregate Street, Shaw Street and, unbelievably, Angel Street right outside McDonald's.

"I can't believe that there won't be some CCTV capturing the culprits coming to light soon."

There do not appear to be any of the tags on the St John's side of the river.

He added: "We are collating the number of victims that will need to be spoken to, many businesses are affected and all will have a cost implication to clear the graffiti up so my estimate would be the final totals will be well over £5,000."

Anyone with information can call 101 and ask to speak to Katie Miller or Sgt Pete Frankish, quoting incident reference 22CA/104119X/16.
