A BANNER emblazoned with the word 'Trump' surrounded by hand-drawn hearts has been removed by students.

The sign was spotted hanging from Sabrina Bridge, near Hylton Road, Worcester, earlier today (Monday) - just days after Donald Trump was sworn in as president of the USA.

On Friday, a banner bearing the words 'Bridges Not Walls' was draped over the same bridge as part of a national protest against the new president's inauguration.

A student, who did not want to be named, said she was getting rid of the seemingly pro-Trump sign because she believed the president would "take everyone backwards, not forwards."

The group of students said they intended to throw the large banner, drawn onto an old curtain, in the bin.

President Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the USA at a ceremony attended by many thousands of supporters on Friday.

The following day, anti-Trump protesters - including members of the Worcestershire Women's Equality Party (WEP) - took part in marches around the world, campaigning against "politics of fear and division".

Leisa Taylor, from the Worcestershire branch of the WEP, said: "We’re determined to stand strong in the face of racism, sexism, homophobia and all other kinds of discrimination and this is a real opportunity to show the world that tolerance and diversity at all levels is more important than ever.

"The politics of fear and division have no place in 2017."

Worcester News readers took to social media on Friday to voice their views on the #bridgesnotwalls campaign.

Martin Bluck wrote: "They obviously don't know what democracy means", while Julie Phillips said: "It's not our problem so why ? Far more worthy causes out there to protest against ."
