THE city's MP has backed the return of Worcester Carnival ahead of the launch of this year's event.

Robin Walker, Worcester's MP, said he was "delighted" the event was returning in 2017 as organisers are set to showcase what they have planned.

A new team including carnival president Alan Feeney will be working alongside remaining chair Malvin Hobbs to bring this year's carnival together after a disappointing event in 2015 and last year's cancellation.

However, Mr Feeney said the team were working "incredibly hard behind the scenes" and has invited people to The Guildhall on Thursday to find out more.

Showing his support for the carnival, Mr Walker said: “I am delighted that the Worcester Carnival is coming back in 2017 and that it will bring another great event to the streets of our city.

"Worcester is a fantastic place to live and to visit and events such as this can play an important part in making it even better.

"I wish the organisers and volunteers every success in making this year’s carnival the best yet and I would encourage local businesses to get behind this initiative to increase footfall in our thriving city centre."

Worcester Carnival is due to take place on Saturday, July 1.

Anyone interested in taking part in any aspect of the event including the parade, sponsorship or street entertainment are invited to The Guildhall on Thursday from 6pm to 8pm.
