SCREENINGS of an "inspirational" film about body confidence are due to be shown at a city centre cinema.

Embrace, a documentary by 'positive body image activist' Taryn Brumfitt, will be shown at the Odeon, in Foregate Street, Worcester.

Two screenings have been arranged by women from Worcester and Droitwich, who were so moved by the film they wanted to spread its message to people around the city.

Katie Barr, aged 34, is hosting her showing on Monday, February 27, at 6.45pm.

"I watched the trailer for this film and it really resonated with me," said the Barbourne resident. "I have spent my whole life, literally from around the age of nine or ten worrying and being unhappy with my body. And its very clear I am not alone.

"I started to think that after years of struggle that it's more to do with my mindset than my body. My healthy body that carries me through life. It just doesn't look the way society deems it should.

"This docu-film highlights this.We all need to learn to love ourselves more and convey this to our children.

"I want to get together with women and men of Worcester and spread this message through this film."

Sara Matthews, from Droitwich, is co-hosting a screening on Saturday, March 4, at 3pm, with her personal trainer and body confidence coach Matt Smith.

"Prior to meeting Matt, I would constantly talk down to myself, making me feel unworthy of anyone’s love and affection," she explained.

"Initially I started on this journey to ‘lose weight’ but now I realise that I am on this journey to live my life to the fullest, being happy, outgoing and maximising on my potential."

After watching Embrace, she decided she had to host her own screening.

"I am now hosting my own screening – because I believe that only good things can come from as many people seeing this movie as possible," said the 38-year-old.

For the showings to go ahead, both Mrs Barr and Ms Matthews each need to get 60 people to book tickets.

While they are both on their way to filling the seats, tickets are still available.

Cinema-goers will not be charged until the event is confirmed.
