AMATEUR photographers are being urged to get snapping for the chance to win some top camera equipment.

Malvern-based Beacon Camera Club is holding a street photography competition for 2017, and is inviting all keen snappers to submit images.

The competition is open now, and there is plenty of time to take the perfect picture, with entries being accepted until June 1.

The competition is being supported by Lumix Cameras, which has donated one of its GH5M cameras worth £1,700 as the first prize, a Lumix GX8 worth £700 for second prize and a Lumix GX80 worth £550 for the third prize.

There will also be seven runners-up prizes of 20 per cent discount vouchers for Lumix equipment.

Photographers can submit as many images as they want, with an entry fee of £1.50 per image, and full details, including competition rules, can be found at beaconcc.co.uk/streetcomp.

Club vice-chairman Trevor Bell said: "The club membership has grown over the past six years from 40 members to the current level of 145, 18 of which hold Royal Photographic Society distinctions.

"To satisfy the membership’s various interests it currently operates the following special interest groups: audio-visual, beginners and improvers, portraiture, landscape, monochrome, street, and wildlife."

The competition winners will be announced at a Beacon Camera Club event at Worcester's Swan Theatre in July 1, featuring famous photographer Martin Parr.

Parr is one of the best-known documentary photographers of his generation, with over 90 books published. He has been a member of the Magnum agency since 1994 and is currently the president.

In 2013 Parr was appointed the visiting professor of photography at the University of Ulster and his work has been collected by the Tate, the Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Tickets for July's event cost £15 and can be purchased either from the theatre box office or the club.
