FIREFIGHTERS, a police officer, a vet and a vicar were among people who visited a Droitwich School for a Careers day.

Westacre Middle School organised visits from 20 people from a wide variety of careers to talk to pupils about their jobs.

Many of the sessions also involved hands-on activities for the children to get first-hand experience of what different jobs require.

The children were given the chance to select which sessions they wanted to attend and were able to attend up to five of the sessions.

Also there were paramedics, a doctor, an occupational therapist, a zumba instructor and a journalist.

As part of the Careers Day, some children also signed up to an off-site visit to the Bonterre Farm in Worcester.

Paul Barber, the school's deputy head, said: “Today was a perfect example of our school motto 'Inspire Challenge Achieve' in action.

"We were incredibly touched by the amount of people who gave up their time to help us inspire our children to think about their future after school.

"A special thank you to Rhiannon Boulton, Keith Chance, Paul Slavin, Joanne Lammas and Rob Underwood who all spent the entire school day with us, each getting hundreds of children to think about the skills and qualifications they need to build up over the next few years.

"Every single visitor played a key role in the day so we are grateful to each and every one.

"Well done also to our pupils who really threw themselves into the sessions and made the most of such wonderful opportunities."
