A MOTHER is urging cinema-goers to grab tickets to see a screening of an 'inspirational' body confidence film.

Embrace, a documentary by 'positive body image activist' Taryn Brumfitt, will be shown at the Odeon, in Foregate Street, Worcester.

Sara Matthews, who lives in Droitwich, is co-hosting the screening on Saturday, March 4, at 3pm, with her personal trainer and body confidence coach Matt Smith.

Among her reasons for arranging the screening, is to show her 14-year-old daughter the importance of loving yourself just the way you are.

"One of the main reasons for doing this, is to take my 14 year old daughter who is surrounded by a social media expectation of what she believes she should look like," said Ms Matthews, aged 38.

"Children are exposed to images on social media on a daily basis and these kids are comparing themselves and aspiring to look like these people – however the images are not real, they’ve been edited, Photoshopped and manipulated.

"Our children are striving to achieve a body image that doesn’t even exist, which is a terrifying prospect for the future.

"How we feel about ourselves is the very foundation on our existence. It’s not about people ‘accepting’ how things are, it’s about people understanding what they want to get out of life and enabling themselves mentally and physically to achieve and be the best versions of themselves’."

Another screening of the film will be hosted on Monday, February 27, at 6.45pm, by Katie Barr, from Worcester.

For the showings to go ahead, Ms Matthews needs to get 60 people to book tickets.

While she has filled more than half the number of seats, she still has way to go.

Cinema-goers will not be charged until the event is confirmed.
