A START up outdoor events company in Worcestershire is facing an uncertain future following the theft of essential equipment.

Pulse Pursuits was established only last May by Mark Leyland and Roger Cook, the directors who organise running, cycling, and paddle sprint events at various locations across the Midlands.

But on Monday the firm's equipment went missing after a successful Lakeside Launcher Duathlon event, raising money for St Richard’s Hospice, was held at Top Barn Activity Centre.

The stolen goods included a 14ft twin wheel Ifor Williams trailer, loaded with aluminium bike racking bars - used by competitors to hold their bikes when they make the transition between running and cycling.

Nearly 150 people from across the Midlands attended the event including Great British elite triathlete Jodie Stimpson.

Equipment had been on loan from Worcester Triathlon Club, and was being stored at the site ahead of the next duathlon event organised to take place on Sunday, February 19.

This event, in Warwickshire, is still to go ahead after a solution was found, but the theft has damaged the long term prospects for the firm.

As well as building Pulse Pursuits the pair also support local charities with their work, having donated almost six per cent of their turnover to date to good causes.

"This is a devastating blow for the business," Mr Cook said.

"We’ve worked so hard to build our reputation as a fun and friendly team offering accessible events for the whole family and our plans were really starting to take shape.

"Without the equipment we may have to cancel a number of forthcoming events. Not only will this be a huge let down for our charity partners, but it puts our entire business in jeopardy.

"All of our efforts right now are channelled into ensuring we can continue with this and build for a stronger future."

Mr Leyland added: “If we don’t recover the equipment, we have a very grim future.

"We’re therefore making a desperate plea for the public to keep their eyes and ears open and make a report to the police if they spot the equipment on their travels.”

Police investigating the theft say the trailer went missing between 10.30am and 12.30pm on Monday, February 13, but nothing was seen or heard.
