5.30pm UPDATE:  West Mercia police have tweeted to say the issue has now been resolved.

West Mercia OCC has tweeted to say the canal is now clear after lock gates left open.

Original story:

POLICE are warning drivers to avoid a Droitwich road after "misuse" of a canal's lock gates caused it to flood.

Firefighters were at the scene, on the B4090 Hanbury Road, near the Eagle and Sun pub, earlier this afternoon (Monday).

Staff from the Canal and River Trust are at the scene, while Worcestershire County Council's highways department is also responding to the incident.

Drivers are being warned not to attempt to drive through the flooding.

The problem is thought to have been caused by the "misuse of lock gates" on the nearby canal.

The Worcester Birmingham Canal and the Droitwich Junction Canal meet close to the Eagle and Sun pub.

It is not yet clear which canal the incident has taken place on.

More to come.
