A TALENTED young director has scooped awards for his interpretation of the hit-musical Legally Blonde.

Paul Turvey, who lives in Pershore, was recently presented with the Best Musical Director award at the Birmingham Theatre and District Guild Awards.

The 27-year-old's sold-out production of Legally Blonde was was staged by the Stourbridge Operatic Society in October last year.

It was nominated for awards in seven categories, but won the Best Overall Musical Group prize.

Lara Mitchell, who starred in the production as Elle Woods, won Most Outstanding Female Performance for Lara Mitchell, while Mr Turvey took the Colman Kelly Memorial Trophy for best direction of a full length musical.

He said: "[It is] one of the proudest moments of my life. To work with such an amazingly talented and dedicated cast and team was an honour.

"I'd like to thank Stourbridge Operatic Society for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.

"It hasn't sunk in yet, I am completely overwhelmed and humbled to have won such a prestigious award."

The awards were presented by Deed Curry, the Lady Mayoress of Birmingham.

Mr Turvey is currently directing Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Youth Section's production of The Little Shop of Horrors, which will be staged at the Number 8 Community Arts Centre in Pershore on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25.
