EMPLOYEES were confused when they arrived at work to find a tent pitched in the doorway of a hairdressers.

The owner of Head Gardener, in Barbourne Road, Worcester, complained to the police but was told to move it himself.

Locals said the man staying inside the tent was taking part in a charity walk and that he left the area with his shelter at around midday.

Dan Jones, the owner of Head Gardener, said: “I’ve shouted at it but there’s no response it feels like its intruding.

“It’s a bit bizarre. It’s right in my doorway by the window, if I thought it would attract customers I would put one up myself. It’s not ideal.

“I reported it to police and they phone back two hours later to say move it yourself. They won’t send anyone.”

Mr Jones said he was concerned about moving the tent because there could be a dead body inside or a homeless person.

“There may be a dead body in there. I’m worried if it’s a homeless person that’s the only shelter they have got,” he said.

“I don’t want to throw away someone’s belongings.

“The tent had been there overnight. I had three people phone me up and tell me about it.”

Mr Jones said the salon is closed today because they are short staffed but added that the tent had to be moved before reopening tomorrow (March 1).

The owner said he was considering dropping the tent off at the police station so they could store it as lost property.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “Police were made aware around 11.25am today of a tent being put up outside a business on Barbourne Road, Worcester.

“Words of advice were given to the caller and they have now removed the tent.”
