TRIBUTES have been paid on to a man whose body was found in a canal in Worcester.

The man, named locally as Amar Pervez, was found on Tuesday morning in the canal at Spring Lane, near Worcester Shrub Hill railway station.

Police are treating the death as unexplained and an inquest has been opened by the Worcestershire coroner.

Tributes to Mr Pervez, who was thought to be 29 years old, have flooded in on social media, with many people posting messages of condolence on the Worcester News Facebook page.

Cynthia Mccartney wrote: "I had the pleasure of working with the man. God bless, condolences to the family"

Eloise Chislett posted: "Rest in peace mate you will be missed by so many x"

Diane Orgee said: "So sad thoughts are with the family x"

And Lisa Marwick added: "Such sad news, my thoughts are with the family xx"

A post-mortem examination into the death was due to take place yesterday (Wednesday).

West Mercia Police received a call from a concerned member of the public just before 7.30am on Tuesday morning, reporting they had seen a body in the canal.

The canal bank was cordoned off while police and forensics officers examined the area.

People living near to the canal said on Tuesday they were shocked to learn of the discovery.

Andrew Clark, who has lived in Spring Hill for 28 years, said: "It is quite shocking."

Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: "It is horrible to think that this happened so close by.

"I phoned my mates and none of us know what happened."

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) also attended the scene.
