Heart warming romantic comedy The Wedding Singer the hilarious musical based on the hit film about a wedding singer who gets jilted at the altar opened in Bristol on Tuesday evening.
Its the mid eighties the era of disco dancing, big hair, short skirts, sequins and the teenage girls of Ridgefield, New Jersey dream of finding Mr Right and planning their perfect wedding, the boys play hard, work hard and for some to find a girl and settle down.
Rock star wannabe Robbie Hart (Jon Robyns) is left distraught when his fiancee has a change of heart on their wedding day. Robbie unknowingly falls in love with sweet natured waitress Julia who is questioning her feelings for bad boy fiance money mad womaniser multi talented singer/actor/dancer Glen (Ray Quinn) X Factor, Dancing on Ice and versatile West End performer.
Cassie Compton was a delightful Julia, impressive in the lead role originally played by Drew Barrymore, ably supported by her friend Holly charming, dynamic Roxanne Pallet.
Outrageous grandma Ruth Madoc and Samuel Holmes as Boy George guaranteed plenty of laughs.
The gifted and lively ensemble performed slick choreography, just a pity I was not familiar with most of the songs.
For an evening of fun and the feel good factor party like its 1985 The Wedding Singer runs until Saturday, 18th March.
