POLICE have pledged to tackle anti-social behaviour among children in Dines Green.

We reported how a charity stopped running youth sessions at the Green Hub, in Gresham Road due to safety fears after an increasing number of problems.

Helen Scarrett, the head of Worcester Community Trust, also told how she believes children from all over the city are travelling to Dines Green to fight and cause trouble.

On Monday, children were seen throwing stones near the centre and staff later found that a double-glazed window had been smashed.

Police say they are aware of the concerns and that officers from the Worcester Safer Neighbourhood Team are working closely with the charity and the local community to manage the recent issues.

"Police officers will continue to work to protect local residents and those attending and working at the centre," a West Mercia Police spokesman said.

Ms Scarrett has welcomed the support and says the charity, which manages the centre, hopes to restart the youth sessions soon.

She is hoping to have police community support officers stationed outside the centre for future sessions.

"We do work really well with the police team," Ms Scarrett said. "We just need to sit around a table and agree a course of action in what is a difficult time in Dines Green.

"Hopefully we will be meeting next week. Our position is we just want to work with young people and regain their trust.

"We want to reopen the youth sessions again. We know the police will pick up with dealing with the other issues."

Ms Scarrett says comments in response to our initial article reflect the issues in the area.

One mother commented on our Facebook page about youngsters "going to Cripplegate Park to fight Dines Green kids".

She added: "The children are probably copying the older ones."

June Binyon added: "Unfortunately a lot of young people these days are completely out of control.

"There is no discipline at home, nor at school and many of them spend hours playing violent computer games."
