PEOPLE across Worcestershire are being urged to honour ordinary friends and neighbours who do extraordinary things by nominating them for a national award.

The British Citizen Award recognises exceptional individuals who work tirelessly and selflessly to make a positive impact upon society. It was launched in January 2015, and over 150 people have been honoured so far at four prestigious ceremonies at the Palace of Westminster.

Previous medallists have included Jane Newton of Tenbury Wells, who has dedicated her whole professional life to giving emotional and practical support to people, who not only have financial difficulties but personal difficulties; Joyce Foxall of Kidderminster, who has collected for the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal for more than six decades; Rosemary Hutton of Redditch, who has dedicated her life to the entertainments industry by helping local and national charities by donating her time, effort and expertise to aid a wide range of charitable fundraising events; and Fred Holland, of Kidderminster, who has campaigned tirelessly for diabetes awareness and raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for good causes.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the next round of medal presentations, which takes place in July 2017, and close on Friday, April 7.
