A CHIP shop manager who caused a crash on the motorway near Worcester has failed in a bid to have a four-year driving ban reduced.

Stuart Cooper, aged 26, drove into the back of another car on the M5 between Worcester and Droitwich causing it to spin around and leaving the two occupants with whiplash injuries.

In July, 2014, he was given a jail sentence of 16 months for careless driving, driving with excess alcohol and while disqualified, Worcester Crown Court was told.

His barrister Anthony Cartin told a court hearing that since his release, he had completed two years and five months of the four year ban he was given.

He said Cooper would still have to pass an extended re-test before being allowed back on the road but he needed a licence because he wanted to establish a mobile computer repair business.

Mr Cartin said Cooper had moved from Worcester and lived above the chip shop where he was manager in Leicester Street, Bulkington, Warwickshire, and occasionally needed the licence for work.

Judge Nicholas Cole said Cooper had a poor record of driving offences and he saw no reason why the period of the ban should be reduced.

Cooper was ordered to pay £260 in costs.
