THE latest addition to Worcester's burgeoning burger restaurant scene is set to open tomorrow – with the first 100 customers treated to a freebie.

Burger Shop, based under a railway arch in Cherry Tree Walk, will officially open at 6pm tomorrow – and to celebrate the launch, 100 free burgers will be given away for free.

It is the third restaurant to be opened by Jon Stead, and brothers Ed and Dorian Kirk, who also run two eateries in Hereford – another Burger Shop and The Bookshop.

Mr Stead said: "I'm really excited – a little bit nervous. It is one of those things, you never quite know how it is going to go. I'm really confident in our team.

"The location is brilliant. We just saw the bricks on the inside [of the arch] and we all thought – 'that would be an amazing restaurant space.'

"But when customers come it is more than just style over substance. We want to build a community of people who really like what we are doing over a period of time.

"Come on down, get here early, have some free food and see what it is about."

Nearly everything served at the glass-fronted Burger Shop will be made by staff on site, save the buns and ketchup, while chefs use ingredients sourced from Herefordshire.

And around 15 people have been employed to staff the venue.

The restaurant idea was well-received by Network Rail, which said the move would help make good use of an Worcester archway in poor condition.

Initially, Burger Shop will open Wednesdays to Sundays, with a view to eventually trade seven days a week.
