TEMPORARY traffic lights will be set up in a busy road to enable the replacement of an electricity cable.

Western Power Distribution is fitting a new cable in Deansway, Worcester, at the junction with Copenhagen Street.

There has been 'a complete cable failure' and the company believes it will be quicker to fit a new cable than trying to find the failure point.

Work will start at 7.30pm tonight (April 13) and continue until Saturday morning, when the temporary lights will be removed.

One lane in Deansway, in the direction of Worcester Bridge, will be closed after the removal of the lights.

This closure will be lifted on Tuesday morning.

Jon Fraser, head of Highways at the county council, said: "It's unfortunate but it's out of our hands. Emergencies happen."

• SEVERN Trent Water (STW) will also be carrying out repairs to a broken sewer in Barbourne Road, Worcester, on Easter Sunday.

Sewage has backed up from the pipe so STW has decided to carry out the repair over Easter, which is likely to require roadworks in the road, near the junctions with Little London and Hebb Street.

Traffic lights nearby will be switched off, and the repair site may need repairs in the road.

Jon Fraser, head of highways at the county council, said: "Unfortunately it is another emergency repair.

"The team will try to minimise the disruption."
