PUB regulars have raised over £6,000 for a charity that provides care to children who have life threatening conditions.

The Plumber's Arms, in Wyld's Lane, Worcester, collected the money for Acorns Children's Hospice in less than a year.

The pub raised the amount through quiz nights, raffles, football tournaments and darts competitions.

Landlady Christine Williams said: "Acorns is such a fantastic charity in the city and as we’re virtually neighbours, we thought it would be the perfect cause to support.

"We organised loads of activities over the past year to raise the funds and it’s thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of all the pub staff and regulars that we’ve been able to reach this fantastic milestone."

Ms Williams said she knows the importance of the charity because her daughter, Julianne, works as a nurse for Acorns.

Mandie Fitzgerald, community fundraising manager for Acorns, said: "We’re so grateful to Christine and everyone at the Plumber’s Arms for putting on such a brilliant year of fundraising.

"As a charity we rely on the generosity of the local community to continue our work, so this amount will make a real difference."

Acorns has provided care to more than 860 children and over 1,080 families in the past year.

The charity spends nearly £10m every year and relies heavily on community fundraising.
