A CONCERT celebrating the best of classical English music will be held at Worcester Cathedral this Saturday.

Tickets are still available for the inaugural concert for Maggs Day Centre in Worcester which will be held at 7.30pm.

Called 'An English Celebration', the concert will be performed by Proteus Ensemble, founded by Stephen Shellard, the senior lay clerk in Worcester Cathedral Choir, in late 2013.

Proteus is made up of professional singers drawn from all over the UK and all proceeds from the concert will to towards the day centre.

They have already released a CD, recorded in October 2013 at Worcester Cathedral, and are set to perform at Pershore Abbey during the Three Choirs Festival.

The reader will be Gabrielle Bullock and the organist/accompanist is Piers Maxim.

Music performed on the night includes the work of Parry, Purcell, Tavener and Vaughan Williams.
