SOME 20 litres of fuel spilled out of a vehicle and onto a garage forecourt.

A fire crew from Worcester used sand and an environmental grab pack to clear up the leak.

Firefighters were sent to the Esso garage, in London Road, Worcester, after receiving a report at 11.23am today (May 8).

Craig Fletcher, a barman at a pub opposite the garage, said: "It was a woman filling up her car.

"I'm guessing she had a hole in the petrol tank she didn't know about.

"It went all over the floor. It didn't close the road but it did shut the station. It was shut for about 45 minutes."

Mr Fletcher, aged 30, said he was at the garage buying lunch for his shift at the Sebright Arms pub.

"It was £20 worth of fuel when she paid at the till. She paid after it had leaked everywhere. The staff put sand on it," he said.

Rebecca Katie, of Worcester, said: "I went in at 1pm when I finished work and the car was getting put onto a tow truck.

"There was sand on the floor and men doing something. Four pumps were closed completely."

The fire crew which attended the scene left at 12.10pm.

Staff at the garage declined to comment.
