THE power of social media proved a hit with the winners of this year’s Dick Cup at Worcester Golf and Country Club.

Without a partner for the competition Carl Joyce used the club’s Facebook page to enquire if anyone wanted to join up with him.

Dave Wilkins made the pair complete and together they lifted one of the club’s prestigious trophies.

Played under the foursomes stableford format the duo totalled 37 points to head a large field on a superb course in tricky conditions.

Wilkins, a seven handicapper, made a successful return to the club after a spell in Australia while Joyce has been a member for two years.

Second place on countback went to the Bransford pairing of Mike Hadden and Pete Shepperd, last year’s winners, who recorded 35.

The remaining places all went to home club members with Chris Lloyd and Dave Holliday in third spot and Simon Fletcher and Brian Heap fourth on 35.

Trevor and Ben Woodward were fifth on countback ahead of Dave Morgan and Mark Wright with both on 34.

The May junior medal was won by Amber Hadden with 85 gross 23 handicap 62 nett.

Amber Hadden has seen her handicap tumble over the last year and by winning again she lost three more strokes.

Runner-up was James Bishop with 86-23-63 and Juna Amin was third with 95-24-71.
