WORCESTER Swimming Club secured a huge haul of medals and several new county records at the ASA West Midlands Championships in Coventry.

They sent more than 40 competitors and Daniel Day dominated the boys' 13 year age group with eight gold medals from as many events.

Day is in a good position to qualify for July's British Summer Championships in Sheffield.

Golds came in the 200-metre backstroke (two minutes 22.49 seconds), 200m freestyle (2.11.74), 400m freestyle (4.38.26), 50m freestyle (27.38), 50m backstroke (30.50), 100m freestyle (59.60), 200m individual medley (2.29.96) and 100m backstroke (1.05.35).

His times in the three backstroke events saw him climb up the United Kingdom age group rankings and into the top 24 in the national qualifying window.

Will Gearey bagged 14 year golds in the 100m butterfly (1.02.99), 50m freestyle (25.77), 50m butterfly (28.03), 100m freestyle (56.64) and 100m backstroke (1.05.85).

He added silver in the 50m backstroke (31.16) plus bronzes in the 200m freestyle (2.10.52) and 200m IM (2.23.57).

Gearey is in the top 24 for six events in the national qualifying window.

In the 11 to 12 year group David Annis, 11, battled hard against older swimmers and took bronze in the 400m IM (5.43.74).

He was a finalist in the 200m backstroke (2.42.24), 200m freestyle (2.27.39), 100m butterfly 1.19.50 and 200m IM (2.46.51).

Adam Rutter snatched bronze in the 50m backstroke (35.98) and was a finalist in the 50m butterfly (33.85).

Brodie Willetts reached 13 year finals in the 200m backstroke (2.38.42), 100m butterfly (1.14.59) and 100m backstroke (1.12.86).

George Glover was a finalist in the 100m breaststroke (1.25.60), 50m breaststroke (38.32) and 200m IM (2.40.85).

Louis Doyle won bronze in the 14 year 50m freestyle (27.32) and made the final of the 50m backstroke (32.80).

Back from a serious arm injury Aaron Cook was a 15 year finalist in the 100m butterfly (1.06.61) and 200m butterfly (2.29.54).

Harvey Lloyd won silver in the 16 years 50m breaststroke (33.37) and bronze in the 100m breast (1.13.81).

He was also a finalist in the 200m breaststroke (2.43.16).

Matt Thomas won silver in the 50m butterfly (27.59) and bronze in the 100m butterfly (1.03.22).

He was a finalist in the 200m freestyle (2.06.66) and 100m freestyle (57.04).

Kai Gooden-Morris was a finalist in the 50m freestyle (27.01), 100m breaststroke (1.15.33) and 200m breaststroke (2.45.19).

Sam Hall was a finalist in the 17 years 50m breaststroke (31.78), 50m freestyle (25.75), 100m breaststroke (1.10.26) and 200m breaststroke (2.40.67).

For the girls Megan Annis, Olivia Fletcher, Lily Merrell, Charlotte Hall and Lucy Clayton all won gold medals.

Aimee Monks was a finalist in the 11 to 12 years 50m butterfly (33.70).

Rebecca Yates stormed to bronze in the 13 years 200m back (2.34.59) and reached the 50m backstroke final (35.00).

Lauren Annis made the finals in the 200m backstroke (2.44.10), 100m breaststroke (1.27.03), 50m backstroke (34.88) and 100m backstroke (1.16.53).

Megan Annis claimed gold in the 14 year 50m freestyle (28.62), silver in the 50m butterfly (30.24) and bronzes in the 100m butterfly (1.10.40), 100m freestyle (1.02.64) and 50m backstroke (32.87).

She also swam in finals in the 200m backstroke (2.34.49), 100m backstroke (1.11.63) and 200m IM (2.38.35).

Holly Workman won bronze in the 100m breaststroke (1.22.85) and reached the 200m breaststroke final (3.07.90).

Natasha Dobson was a finalist in the 200m backstroke (2.40.72) and 100m backstroke (1.14.33).

Fletcher won 15 year golds in the 200m IM (2.27.62), 100m freestyle (59.14) and 100m backstroke (1.07.26).

Other medals included silvers in the 200m freestyle (2.10.98) and 50m freestyle (27.97) and bronzes in the 100m breaststroke (1.19.94) and 50m breaststroke (35.21).

Naomi Marsden won silver in the 50m backstroke (32.74) and was a finalist in the 50m butterfly (30.73).

Josie Armstrong was a finalist in the 100m butterfly (1.11.13) as was Jenny Gearey in the 50m backstroke (33.20) and 100m backstroke (1.12.26).

Charlotte Hall claimed 16 year gold in the 50m butterfly (29.56) and reached the finals of the 100m butterfly (1.14.83) and 50m freestyle (29.61).

Merrell won gold in the 50m breaststroke (36.17) and was a finalist in the 100m breaststroke (1.21.48).

Eleanor Niel also made the 50m breaststroke final (36.70).

Club captain Clayton won gold in the 17 year and over 50m breaststroke (34.25) and bronze in the 100m breaststroke (1.16.89).

Charlotte Yates reached the 50m breaststroke final (37.08).

In the relays there was double delight for the boys' 17 and over 400m quartet of Anthony Redfern, Robin Williams, Alex Westwood, Sam Hall.

They won golds in the 400m freestyle (3.37.60) and 400m medley (4.05.21), claiming a new county record in the process.

The girls' 14 to 16 years 400m freestyle team of Fletcher, Megan Annis, Jenny Gearey and Charlotte Hall and 4x200m team of Fletcher, Annis, Armstrong and Hall both bagged new county records subject to ratification.

Worcester's squad also included Henry Halford, Eddie Cox, Hannah Dixon, Kieran Cooper, Alex Farmer, Ben Holmes, Charlotte Downey, Emily West, Heather Castle, Lauren Hill, Maisie Lyons, Mike Agoston and Izzy Wilkinson.
