A DECISION over Worcester City FC's new stadium has been hit by fresh delay - with any prospect of a vote in May now abandoned.

At one point a crunch decision over the 4,400 capacity ground at Perdiswell Park was expected to be made this month.

But Worcester City Council's planning committee is meeting next Thursday, with no mention of the stadium on the agenda.

It emerged yesterday that some key documents submitted with the application are now considered out-of-date by planning chiefs, with the supporter's trust being asked to re-do some work.

The stance is a blow to the club's supporter's trust, which first handed in the proposals in 2014, before it was revised two months ago.

The trust has been asked to re-submit an 'Environmental Impact Assessment', which examines the implications a football ground would have on the landscape, air quality and wild species.

Councillor Adrian Gregson, the council's leader, said: "They've been asked to go and update some of the data, some of the reports were considered out of date.

"We obviously don't want it to hold the process up much further."

It means the trust now faces a battle to get its proposals considered by the planning committee this summer.

But the Worcester News also understands the club is currently unlikely to even get the land transferred over, in the event of securing planning approval.

All 35 city councillors will need to take a separate vote in order for a lease deal to be agreed over the particular section of Perdiswell Park, which is council-owned.

At the moment the club would face a struggle getting 18 councillors, the majority figure needed to approve a lease, to back it.

It comes after Green Councillor Louis Stephen insisted there was not "a solid business case" for allowing the club to build there.

A spokesman for the club's supporter's trust was unavailable for comment yesterday, but it has said a detailed business case for the land will be drawn up if planning permission is secured.

A council spokesman said: "The delay is because of the Environmental Impact Assessment, which we have asked to be resubmitted."

The club have been playing outside the city since leaving St George’s Lane in 2013, currently plying their trade in Bromsgrove.
