YEAR 7 pupils spent a Droitwich school spent a week learning about healthy lifestyles and ways of keeping fit. The children at Westacre Middle School took part in a range of activities that helped them to learn about both physical and mental well-being as well as the role nutrition plays in health and fitness.

The week was organised to coincide with the school's annual residential trip at the Drapers' Field Centre in Betws-y-Coed, North Wales, with the school organising events both in Wales and back in Droitwich for the children.

The 65 children who went on the trip took part in a lot of outdoor adventure activities.

The Westacre pupils got really energetic with rock climbing and gorge scrambling, before the main challenge of the trip- climbing Mount Snowdon.

They also tried out Welsh Orienteering and enjoyed a campfire, singsong, games and marshmallow toasting.

For the final day of the residential, the group completed the National Trust walk around Cwm Idwal, which offers some of the most dramatic mountainous scenery in the UK at the oldest National Nature Reserve in Wales.

More about the trip is available in the school's blog about the visit at http://westacre.j2bloggy.com/Snowdon-2017/

The other Year 7 children at Westacre who stayed back at school also had an inspiring week of activities based around the theme of Healthy Living.

This included team building games and Yoga sessions organised and led by the Westacre staff, as well as visits to places in the local community organised by Tesco.

Westacre also worked with the neighbouring Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre to offer all of the children the chance to use three different facilities at the Rivers Fitness location. The pupils enjoyed the chance to take part in Zumba, Virtual Balance, Squash, Basketball, Football, Circuit Training, Badminton or Swimming sessions.

Paul Barber, deputy headteacher, said: "We would like to pass on our gratitude to the staff at Rivers Fitness, Tesco and Drapers' Field for helping give our children an unforgettable week!

"Each and every pupil has thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities and have taken a lot from each of them.

"Well done to all of the children for meeting every challenge head on and showing such resilience and enthusiasm throughout the week.

"Finally, thank you to the many staff at Westacre who have gone above and beyond this week with their time and commitment."
