A GENERAL Election hustings is taking place at a Worcester school, it has emerged.

All the city's parliamentary candidates have been invited to Nunnery Wood High School on Friday, June 2 to be grilled by a packed audience.

The event has been organised by Rabyia Baig, who is part of the 'Conservative Future' movement.

The 24-year-old is also a UK Youth political ambassador, and says the hustings will give people chance to question the hopefuls on local and national issues.

Brexit, the economy, health and social care, immigration and education are some of the topics they are expected to focus on.

Ms Baig said: "This election is crucial in securing a brighter future for Britain.

"I believe this event will provide helpful information to members of the public and give them the opportunity to ask candidates questions about national and local policy.

"It will be a great evening and we look forward to receiving a high turnout."

It will get underway from 6.30pm at the school, which is in Spetchley Road, with no advance booking required.

The announcement comes after some disruption to the General Election campaign after the terrorist atrocity in Manchester.

A hustings debate due to be held at Worcester's Guildhall last night ended up being scrapped due to all electioneering being paused.

Anyone looking to attend the Nunnery Wood High School event can email questions for the candidates to Ms Baig on rabyiabaig2009@live.co.uk.

Seven candidates are going for the Worcester seat including Conservative Robin Walker, Labour's Joy Squires, Green Louis Stephen, Lib Dem Stephen Kearney and UKIP's Paul Hickling.

There are also two independents, Mark Shuker, who is standing for a movement called ‘Compass’, and Alex Rugg.

Mr Walker is defending a majority of 5,646 in one of Britain's key 'bellwether' seats.
