A FAMILY of fearless fundraisers are set to become superheroes next month to raise money for a Worcester hospice.

Lesley Cornish, her husband Mark, 45, and children Alice, 15, and Emily and Matthew, both aged 13, will be pushing themselves to the limit during St Richard’s Superhero Challenge, being held in Holt, near Worcester, on Saturday, June 17.

The family will be navigating a giant, inflatable obstacle course dressed as The Incredibles, all in honour of the “incredible” hospice care Mrs Cornish’s dad Trevor Hockenhull received.

Mr Hockenhull, who lived with his wife in Badsey, near Evesham, died after being diagnosed with cancer. He was cared for by St Richard’s for 10 days in February last year.

As the Superhero Challenge falls over the same weekend as Father’s Day, the event will be an especially poignant way for Mrs Cornish to remember her dad.

Mrs Cornish, aged 51, said: “We were so fortunate to have the support of St Richard’s Hospice to care for both my dad and my mother.

“We think the care and support St Richard’s provided was incredible."

The family have already smashed their original £250 target, and are now hoping to raise even more.

The challenge is being held at University of Worcester Lakeside Campus and will see hundreds take on the course that will feature clouds of foam, a Big Bertha drop slide, bouncy tunnels, and UV bubbles.

Rachel Jones, fundraising manager at St Richard’s, said: “We’re so excited about the Superhero Challenge, we’ve never done an event like this before.

“We have had nearly 600 people sign up so far and there are so many lovely stories about why people are taking part and celebrating their superheroes in their life.

“We urge people to get involved and take on the challenge - it’s not a race, you can walk or jog.

“There will be lots of extra activities taking part on the day too like the BBQ, bouncy castle, bungee run and gladiator dual, so it will be a great day out.”

Participants can also bring along a photo of their hero to share on a superhero gallery display during the day.

The event takes place between 10am and 4pm, with participants setting off a different time.

Places are limited, and anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
