A DAD will support the charity which provides his daughter with 'invaluable' care by taking part in a 'bubble race'.

Simon Pitcher, aged 48, signed up for the challenge because he wants to give something back to Acorns Children's Hospice.

His 10-year-old daughter, Caitlin, cannot walk, talk or feed herself and visits the hospice in Bath Road, Worcester, for short breaks.

Mr Pitcher is being sponsored to wade through bubbles in the 5km race at Hatton Country World, Warwick, on Saturday, June 24.

He said: “Acorns' support is invaluable and gives us that much needed respite.

"They give us a break so we can recharge our batteries and be able to continue caring for Caitlin.”

His daughter was unable to open her eyes when she was born and they later found out that she has a ‘gene deletion’.

"Caitlin always has a smile and is always ready to play. Acorns provide the only overnight respite we get," Mr Pitcher added.

“That’s why I'm trying to raise a little money through sponsorship for Acorns.

"It might not be a lot, but it's our way of saying thank you for all they do for us and for caring for our little girl as much as we do."

Mr Pitcher said he and his wife, Cheryl, live in Warwick and carry out Caitlin's personal care on a daily basis.

They get very little sleep some nights as his daughter is on a machine which helps her to breath.

He described caring for Caitlin as exhausting but also very worthwhile.

Acorns provides care to children with life limiting illnesses.
