A REUNION of former pupils from a Worcester school is expected to raise around £2,000 for the city's breast unit.

The Christopher Whitehead School reunion at the school in Bromwich Road, St John's, Worcester on Saturday, October 7 is open to all year groups and to men and women who attended the school, whether as pupils or staff.

It is the third time a reunion has been organised at the school in as many years but tickets are selling quickly with all proceeds going to the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.

Organiser Jessica Sampson urged people to contact her as soon as possible if they want to attend.

There are 100 tickets for sale which cost £15 each, offered on a first come, first served basis.

Mrs Sampson has set a deadline of July 6 for ticket sales. The reunion will take place in the school hall between 1.30pm and 4.30pm.

Mrs Sampson attended the school between 1976 and 1981, one of nine of the Richards children to attend the school (three boys and six girls).

She said: "One of the biggest things about the reunion is making contact with old friends but also raising money for a really great local cause that affects us all."

The reunion, which will include high tea, entertainment, presentations and a talk by a guest speaker, Emily Montgomery who is a director of nursing and breast cancer survivor.

Mrs Sampson said: "The school are offering high tea, entertainment, a tour, presentations and we will have prizes sponsored by local businesses."

Guests will also have the chance to see artefacts dating back to 1934.

The reunion is also an opportunity to build up a database of alumni at the school for potential fundraising and social activities.

The fundraiser will act as a launch for the project.

For those who want to continue the celebration there is evening entertainment at Keystones from 8pm until late the same day.

In total 125 people came to the reunion of former students and staff from Christopher Whitehead Girls School at Worcestershire County Cricket Club in New Road, Worcester on September 17 last year.

Women came from as far afield as Austria and Manchester for the afternoon tea and for a disco in the evening.

One former pupil, Amelia Eason, arrived in a helicopter after getting a ride courtesy of the Royal Marines.

Last year's event was also in aid of the breast unit near Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The reunion was also attended by 14 former members of staff, two of them 82 years old (Miss Eve Watkins and Mrs Boyle) and former headmistress, Helen Olds.

Last year's fundraiser was once again organised by former pupil, Helen Price, who also organised the inaugural reunion in 2015.

Mrs Sampson says sponsors are still being sought for the reunion.
