A DRIVER is alleged to have driven down a motorway the wrong way after taking a car without the owner’s consent and while under the influence of alcohol.
Tony Chapman of Aspley Heath Lane, Tamworth-in-Arden, appeared before Worcester Crown Court this morning (Wednesday, June 7).
The 62-year-old did not formally enter pleas to charges of dangerous driving, which involved a Toyota being driven the wrong way down a motorway; taking the vehicle without the owner’s consent; possession of a controlled drug of class B (cannabis); driving without insurance; driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving while unfit through drink.
He asked the case to be adjourned while he seeks legal representation and his legal aid application is processed.
Judge Nicolas Cartwright said he wanted progress made as soon as possible.
He adjourned the case to Wednesday, July 5.
An interim driving disqualification has already been imposed which is part of Chapman's bail.
He must also live and sleep at the address provided to the court.
