A LOCAL community club united with a school to raise money for a students' sports trip to the Caribbean.

Members of Worcester Lions Club joined staff at Christopher Whitehead Language College, in Bromwich Road, Worcester, to oversee the Race Night with a Difference event.

Just under £500 was raised during the evening, which will help fund a tour for 21 pupils to Barbados in February 2018.

The 12-year-old students will be taking part in netball and cricket tournaments while on the island.

James Cosh, a teacher at the college, said: "It was a huge success and has really helped us move forward in reaching our fundraising total.

"The pupils have been working very hard to raise the money needed and are very appreciative of the support from such a fantastic organisation."

Students raced hobby horses in the school's sports hall as part of the event on Friday, May 12.
