TRAVELLERS have been issued with a police notice to leave a playing field.
The group reportedly moved into King George V Playing Fields, Worcester, on Sunday, and said they were heading to Appleby Horse Fair.
One of the travellers told a Worcester News reporter that the group would leave the site on Wednesday, June 7.
Worcester City Council served the 16 caravans with a notice to leave immediately, on Tuesday.
The police issued a community protection notice on the same day, after reports of people urinating in hedges and other minor anti-social behaviour issues.
Sergeant Simon Hallam, of West Mercia Police, said they had issued a Direction To Leave Notice today (June 8).
He added that officers are patrolling the area to provide reassurance to the community.
"[We are] aware that this site is significant in terms of amenities and events provided to local residents," he said.
“Officers will endeavour to take positive action to address any reported issues of anti-social or criminal behaviour at the site.”
The Appleby Horse Fair, in Cumbria, started today and will end on Wednesday, June 14.
