THE annual Board March fitted the bill perfectly, giving Worcester businesses a big boost while raising £3,000 for good causes across the city.

The Board March in Worcester on Saturday is an annual event organised by the Rotary Club of Worcester to support businesses but also promote important good causes and charities, from promoting literacy in schools to paying for social activities for elderly people.

The club seeks sponsorship from local businesses and in return marches the company’s poster around the city.

This year some 80 posters with 40 marchers were paraded around the town in a march led by the 7th Malvern Girls’ Brigade Band.

Each board was photographed with the Mayor of Worcester, Clr Steve Mackay, on the steps of the Guildhall.

Samy Wassef of the Rotary Club of Worcester said: "This year the march will have raised over £3,000 and thanks goes to both the businesses and the volunteers that marched with the boards.

"All of the funds raised will go to support the activities on the Rotary Club of Worcester in the local community. "The local activity of the Club includes supporting literacy in schools, a boat trip for the elderly; a ‘fun day’ at a special needs school as well as donations to a number of smaller local charities.

"The Rotary club is actively involved in a variety of local projects as a voluntary organisation works to make a difference in the local community.

"The Board March is just one of the ways that the club raised funds in addition to the personal service that its members give."

Local businesses wishing to be involved in next year’s Board March should contact the Rotary Club of Worcester.
