A TEAM of fundraisers based in Malvern will be walking the Worcestershire Way next weekend to raise money for St Richard's Hospice in memory of a dead comrade.

Every year, Team Zulu – fans of the classic film starring Michael Caine – walks the 34-mile route in a day for St Richard’s Hospice.

The team has raised over £20,000 for the hospice in the last seven years, and hopes to add to that total with this year's walk.

This year, the team will be taking to the way on Friday, June 23, starting at Bewdley.

They will make their way across the Abberley Hills and Ankerdine Hill to cross the River Teme and the Suckley Hills before arriving in Malvern.

Team founder Tarquin Shaw-Young said: "We were sad to lose one of our members last year, Bob Harper, who passed away on September 12. It is a sober reminder of why we all do the walk and this year's team will walk in his memory.

"We thank you in advance for your generosity. We aim to raise at least £2,000 with your help by walking once more the length of the Worcestershire Way, 34 miles in just one day, all in aid of St. Richard's Hospice. It is a hard but rewarding day for a fantastic organisation.

“To give you an idea of the extremities of the walk – most people do it over three days – it’s 5,000 feet of ascent with a height gain of one-sixth the height of Mount Everest."

The year before last, celebrity presenter Clare Balding featured Team Zulu in her Radio Four series Ramblings, joining them for one of their training walks for the Worcestershire Way event.

Team Zulu was founded by Mr Shaw-Young as a tribute to the 1964 classic film. He and his friends dress up in

period costume from the Zulu war to undertake their fundraising activities.
