A PUB manager has swapped pulling pints for climbing mountains to raise funds for Worcester's ex-soldiers and the city's regimental museum.

Matt Adams has raised £500 with walks in the Brecon Beacons and is eager for more recruits to join him on his ongoing fundraising mission.

He made a presentation of promissory certificates at the Veterans Breakfast Club at the Postal Order in Foregate Street, Worcester, on Saturday (June 10).

The certificates were presented to the Worcester Branch the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association (WFRA) and the Mercian Regiment Museum (Worcestershire) by Mr Adams, a manager at the Postal Order where the breakfast club meets.

Mr Adams has been completing a series of sponsored walks over some of the mountains in Brecon, Wales.

His last walk was over Pen y Fan, nicknamed the 'Fan Dance' by the military. He has raised the sum through sponsorship, donations at the Postal Order and an online 'Just Giving' page.

He would welcome anyone who would like to join him on one of his walks as the fundraising is an ongoing objective.

Nigel Fish, chairman of the Worcester Branch WFRA, said: "Matt had wanted to do a fundraising event for the old soldiers of the local regiment, the Worcestershire Regiment and latterly the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment in which some of his close friends had served.

"On learning that the Regimental Museum will be having its yearly funding cut, Matt agreed that it would be better suited to divide the sum between the Worcester Branch WFRA and the Mercian Regimental Museum (Worcestershire).

"All donations to the Museum will be gratefully received, as to keep the Worcestershire Soldier Museum in Foregate Street and its archives in good order is an expensive undertaking."

The money donated to the Worcester Branch of WFRA

will be put aside for a future memorial to all those that served in regiment, especially the 16 who were killed in action between February 10, 1972 and September 20, 2007 but also for 42 additional soldiers who died whilst serving.

On hand to receive the certificates were Mark Jackson, a retired colonel from the regiment and chairman of the museum's board of trustees, and Nigel Fish, chairman of Worcester Branch (WFRA).

Also present was newly re-elected Worcester MP, Robin Walker.

The Veterans Breakfast Club meets on the first Saturday of the month.

Founder Dave Carney said that the club is going from strength to strength with new members made to feel very welcome. The club meets at 10am.
