A FUN community celebration has been organised to mark the Hive's fifth birthday.

A "big family event" is taking place at the library in Worcester on Saturday, July 8 to celebrate the milestone.

Music, children’s entertainment, food and drinks stalls, an exhibition and a Great Hive Cake-Off competition have been organised.

Laura Worsfold, business development manager at the Hive, said: “In the five years since the Hive opened we have had over four million visits to the library.

"It has had a huge impact on people in and around Worcester, and the variety of visitors and new members has made the Hive what it is today.

"This event is to say thank you to all of the people who use the Hive and to showcase all of its fantastic features that have made it such a success.”

Activities for children under five will begin at 10am with children’s entertainers Jungle Jiggle and staff from the Hive will present a birthday themed imagination station.

Children can join in with storytelling, treasure hunts and crafts throughout the day.

The Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service will be hosting a behind the scenes tour of archives and collections, plus there will be an exhibition in taking visitors on a journey of the Hive’s achievements, successes and events since the opening in 2012.

Live music will take place throughout the day with performances from Vocal High and the choir of St Clement's Primary, St John's starting at 10am, and the Worcester Ukulele Club playing from 1pm to 1.45pm.

Food and drinks, such as the Shake Shack milkshake vendor and Oh My Gosh cupcakes, will be outside the front of the Hive serving hot and cold treats from 10am.

There is a Great Hive Cake-Off competition for both junior and senior contestants.

Judging will begin at 3pm to see who has got what it ‘bakes’ to create a winning, show-stopping cake.

The cakes must be entered between noon and 2pm. Entry forms to take part in the contest can be downloaded from the Hive events page www.thehiveworcester.org/whats-on

On Thursday, July 6 from 5pm to 10pm the Hive will be closed for a special event.
