THE biggest public art event ever seen in Worcester is up and running after securing its first sponsor.

Hewett Recruitment has pledged to sponsor a majestic giraffe sculpture as part of Worcester Stands Tall – a Wild in Art event brought to the city by St Richard’s Hospice.

For 10 weeks during summer 2018 at least 25 beautifully decorated, 2.5-metre tall giraffes will tower over the city’s streets, parks and open spaces to form a visually stunning art trail.

Each sculpture will be funded by companies and individuals from around the county and will be brought to life by regional and national artists.

At the end of the project, the sculptures will be auctioned to raise vital funds for the free on-going care and support offered by St Richard’s Hospice for people affected by life-limiting illnesses.

Louise Hewett, managing director at Hewett Recruitment, said: “I feel it is a fitting tribute to my mum and dad who passed away year before last.

“They lived in Africa for many years and would have appreciated seeing these majestic creatures standing tall for a good cause in the city of Worcester.

“I’m thrilled to be able to support St. Richard’s Hospice on behalf of my parents and raise funds in this unusual way.”

Tricia Cavell, fundraising director at St Richard’s, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to announce Hewett Recruitment as our first sponsor for Worcester Stands Tall.

“Louise has been a long-term supporter and patron of the hospice – we are delighted she is involved with our exciting event.

“Worcester Stands Tall will be a fantastic adventure and is so important to St Richard’s Hospice. Along with creating a fantastic, inspiring day out for all the family we hope to raise a significant sum towards the care and support we give to thousands of people and their families each year.”

Further sponsors will be announced shortly.

The giraffes will be joined by at least 25 baby giraffe sculptures – crafted by students and teachers in local schools. The baby giraffes will be displayed in the city for the 10 weeks during the trail.
