SUPERHEROES landed in Holt earlier today to take part in a challenge raising money for a Worcester hospice.

Fundraisers donned superhero outfits, including Superman, Hulk, Wonder Woman and Batman, when they took part in the event organised by St Richard's Hospice.

The event, held throughout the day at the Worcester Lakeside Campus, saw more than 700 participants complete a five kilometre walk or run with a difference.

The course featured 10 obstacles around the course including bouncy tunnels, UV bubble pods, a foam bath, and the grand finale - a Big Bertha slide.

The participants had an unexpected challenge on the day, battling scorching heat with temperatures rising to 27C.

Charlie Homer, community fundraiser at St Richard's Hospice, said the event had been a big success.

"You worry about wind and rain, and suddenly we have had to think about the sun," he said.

"It has been about making sure everyone's got enough water.

"We are aiming to raise around £40,000, all for the hospice and its work supporting 3,000 patients within South Worcestershire.

"This is one of the biggest events we will do this year."

The event also featured sumo wrestling, a children's bouncy castle, and refreshments including ice creams.

Participants brought along pictures of their real life heroes and shared messages for a memory wall, which grew throughout the day.
