MUSLIMS in the city have invited Jews, Buddhists, Christians and other religious groups to attend a dinner during Ramadan.

Members of the Worcestershire Interfaith Forum will eat together at Worcester Central Mosque, in Tallow Hill, on Wednesday, June 21.

The annual ‘Iftar’ event involves members of different faiths joining hundreds of Muslims at the mosque for a communal dinner.

Cllr Steve Mackay, the Mayor of Worcester, will also attend the meal, which is intended to promote unity.

Mohammed Iqbal, general secretary of Worcester Central Mosque, said: “We are expecting a few hundred from our community.

“Iftar is when we break the fast. This is the second Iftar event in the mosque. We did one last year. We have Iftar events every day but it’s usually small groups.

“People from the interfaith forum are invited. It’s about integration.

“There will be a mixture of food, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian, samosas and curries.”

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims can only eat before sunrise and after sunset.

‘Iftar’ is the name for the traditional meal eaten after sunset during the holy month of Ramadan.
