A KINDHEARTED resident has left a 'touching' card outside a city mosque denouncing this week's London terror attack.

Leaders at Worcester Central Mosque have praised the kindhearted gesture and say the card, signed only 'Karen' must be from someone local.

The mosque shared the card and its message on social media and it has been widely shared, already being viewed more than 13,000 times.

A van ploughed into a group of Muslims at about 12.20am on Monday, June 19, leaving one man dead and 10 others injured.

In the card, Karen apologises for the murderous act, which targeted worshippers near Finsbury Park Mosque, in London.

Worcester Central Mosque, in Tallow Hill, shared a picture of the card on social media, and the mosque’s general secretary, Mohammed Iqbal, said he welled up with emotion while reading it.

Inside the card, Karen wrote: “Not in my name. I am so sorry the London mosque was attacked.

“I believe the majority of British people, like me, welcome faiths of all kinds to Britain and appreciate the contribution which diversity brings to our country.

“In compassion and empathy, Karen.”

Mr Iqbal said: “It was very touching and emotional.

“It was left here in the evening yesterday by a member of the public. It must be someone local.

“It’s been shared loads on Facebook and Twitter. It’s had over 13,000 views on Facebook.

“I’ve had so many emails from local people supporting us. It’s touching.”

Karen also left a bouquet of flowers at the mosque which can be seen in the picture, Mr Iqbal said.

Dr John Inge, the Bishop of Worcester, said that his thoughts are with the Muslim community after the ‘horrifying’ attack in London.

He said: “My hope and prayer is that it will bring our communities together as have other terrorist attacks.

“Here in Worcester, relations between Christians and Muslims are very warm and I was privileged to be invited to speak at Friday prayers last November.

“Faith unites us rather than divides us. May that be increasingly true here and everywhere.”

The Bishop of Worcester, Rt Reverend John Inge, says it is hard to comprehend what was going through the mind of the person who carried out the attack.

He added that his thoughts and prayers were with those who were affected.
