MILES of roads have been successful repaired or resurfaced since Worcestershire County Council's 'Driving Home' programme launched in April 2016.

The authority estimates 20,000 residents have benefitted from the work, which is two-thirds complete, with more than 90 miles of road finished.

The £12 million overhaul of Worcestershire's roads, scheduled to last two years, launched in July 2016 and it is expected a staggering 150 miles of carriageway will have been repaired by 2018.

The programme's team has been continually collecting data about the condition of roads and speaking to local residents to ensure roads that need improvement, and those most important to residents, are included in the programme.

Councillor Alan Amos, cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: "Residents in Worcestershire told us about the conditions of their roads, and we have listened.

"We're investing £12 million over a two-year period to improve the roads that matter the most to our residents - those closest to their homes.

"The programme has made a huge difference so far.

"The overall aim is to improve 150 miles of local roads and, with 93 miles already completed, we are on track to achieve this and the team is doing a fantastic job, all year-round."

David Curlyo, a resident on Cumberland Street in Worcester, which was resurfaced earlier this year said: “I thought it would be an inconvenience when I found out my road was being resurfaced.

"I imagined it would affect access to my home but the Driving Home team were so helpful and efficient, it’s made a real difference to the look and feel of our street."

The region’s roads continue to be some of the best in the country following the busy timetable of improvements and repairs ranging from minor surface dressing to complete reconstruction.
