WODYS youngsters found they had a civic leader as a keen fan when the Mayor of Worcester Cllr Steve Mackay and his wife, Alison, the Mayoress, called in on one of their rehearsals.

The Mayor and Mayoress watched as members rehearsed Whistle Down The

Wind.

Afterwards some of the youngsters took a shine to the civic bling and enjoyed trying on the Mayoral chain – under the watchful eye of the Mayor.

Coun Mackay told the 57-strong cast of eight to 18 year-olds that he and his wife really enjoyed musical theatre and last year had watched the youth groups summer show - Les Misérables (School Edition) - and thought it was fabulous.

He said: "Wodys is 35 years old this year and going from strength to strength. The talent in this room this morning is fantastic and we are very lucky to be going to see Whistle Down The Wind at the theatre and are really looking forward to it. What we have seen this morning was really great".

He told the youngsters that they were "inspirational" and they should go forward in life and make sure they used their talents.

He also mentioned that during his mayoral year he was paying tribute to all the valuable volunteers who worked hard for various organisations in the area, including the many who gave their time freely for Wodys. Then he and the youngsters gave Wodys volunteers a round of applause.
