A FATHER has spoken of his shock after a car ploughed into the front wall of his house in Stourport - where his baby son had been sat minutes earlier.

Richard Jones, 35, was at home with his partner Sarah Yeomans, 24, two daughters Leah, 15, and Ava, eight, and six-month-old Callum, when the car crashed into the property in the Gilgal, at around 9.30pm on Tuesday (July 11).

Mr Jones said the impact of the car sounded like an “explosion” and that debris was scattered across the room - including over the bouncer that baby Callum had been sat in just five minutes previously next to the wall.

Worcester News:

Mr Jones said: “We were all at home watching television. I had taken Callum out of his bouncer minutes before.

“When the car struck, it sounded like an explosion - there was bricks and glass flying everywhere.

“The radiator from the wall was on top of my son’s bouncer.

“My three children were screaming and you couldn’t see in the room for all the dust.

“We were all out of the house in our pyjamas and you could smell gas.

“We are all just in shock - we just weren’t expecting it.

“If the car had struck five minutes earlier, my son would not be sat with us here now.

“He could have been killed.”

He added: “We are now looking for somewhere to stay - we are homeless. I’ve had to keep my daughters off school because they are in shock.

“We have nothing with us as we are not allowed back in the house yet.

“The house structure is unstable.”

Residents on social media reported that the vehicle involved fled the scene after the collision.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “The incident involved a white Land Rover which had collided with a residential property.

“Emergency services were in attendance, and investigations are currently on-going.

“Officers put a road closure in place upon Gilgal, which was later removed at around 10:20pm that evening.”

Witnesses are asked to call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident reference number 753S of July 11.
