KIDDERMINSTER Town Council is hosting the first annual Community Awards for the town.

The new awards scheme aims to recognise individuals, projects, groups and organisations whose dedication and commitment has improved the lives and well-being of local residents.

A spokesman said: "Whether it is someone who has devoted their time to volunteering; a group of people who have helped the local community; someone who has cared for others; a person who has made a difference to local life - nominate them today.

"These awards are open to each and every citizen of Kidderminster and serve to recognise exceptional endeavour, whether in business, healthcare, the arts, the community or education."

A presentation ceremony will be held at Kidderminster Town Hall on Thursday, September 28.

The awards will be split across the six wards - Franche and Habberley North, Broadwaters, Offmore and Comberton, Blakebrook and Habberley South, Aggborough and Spennells, and Foley Park and Hoobrook. Three finalists will be chosen in each ward and they will be selected by the councillors for that ward. All finalists will receive an award but the overall winner in each ward will be announced on the night.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, July 31.
