A BRAVE mum who helped stop a 'vicious' assault on a teenage schoolgirl in Worcester has been hailed a 'guardian angel' by the girl's family.

Good Samaritan Carrie-Anne Abba stepped in when she saw 14-year-old Georgina Harrison being assaulted by another girl, understood to be the same age, in Reindeer Court on Tuesday.

Miss Abba, who was with one-month old Leo at the time, decided to intervene when she saw Georgina, a pupil at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, being beaten up.

Miss Abba asked for the help of other girls who were present, dragging the girl off Georgina after the assault at around 4pm.

Miss Abba, 31, of Malvern said: “I heard shouting and saw a girl with no uniform grab a girl in school uniform by the hair, drag her to the floor and kick her while she was down. She punched her in the face a few times. Everyone was just standing around, watching. There was an old man shouting, ‘Get off her, get off her’."

Miss Abba tried to get between them pull them apart but could not do it alone so asked for help from some of the girls present. Together they were able to pull the other girl off Georgina.

"The girl (Georgina) got up and was crying. She was hysterical, bless her,” said Miss Abba.

Miss Abba had to leave the scene because her baby was crying but put a message on Facebook which has since been shared more than 930 times.

She wrote: "To the young school girl who I just saw dragged to the floor and kicked in the head a few times and punched in the face, inside Reindeer Court, Worcester.

"I was the lady who came over and dragged her off you. If you need a witness please feel free to contact me, I tried to tell you this there and then but you were clearly a bit upset and I couldn't stay as I had my new born baby with me.

Because of the post being shared so many times Miss Abba has since made contact with the girl’s mother, Natasha Wheatley, 33, who said she was very grateful to the woman for intervening, describing Miss Abba as her daughter's 'guardian angel'.

She believes another girl may also have helped in the attack, bringing Georgina to the ground before the other girl began her assault.

The family estimate the physical attack lasted around five minutes.

Mrs Wheatley of Goodrest Close, Worcester, says Georgina was followed from Vue cinema along Friar Street by her attacker who shouted abuse at her before the attack.

Georgina suffered a bruised eye and bruises to her legs and feet and says she was punched, stamped on, kicked in the back of the head and pinched. She attended hospital on Thursday because of the injury to her left foot.

Her mum said: “It was quite a vicious attack. As soon as my daughter got home I dialled 999. There was a threat made straight after the assault to drown her in the canal. She feels nervous and anxious about going out now.

“I want her [the attacker] punished for what she has done so she doesn’t do this to anyone else’s child.”

Georgina's dad, Matthew Wheatley, 36, of said: "I have a lot of respect for the women who intervened. She had a new born baby with her and, out of all the people who were there, she was the one who stepped in."
