A BUSINESS has raised over £20,000 for an older person's charity.

McCarthy and Stone’s West Midland’s team paddled their way to victory in a Dragon Boat Race at Worcester Rowing Club and raised £23,700 for older people’s charity, Royal Voluntary Service.

The retirement housebuilder had more than 90 people attend on the day including 31 sponsors.

All attendees were split into teams and raced three times and McCarthy and Stone’s construction site team, the Aldridge Armadas, took home the trophy.

Following the races, a barbecue and a raffle raised £670.

To honour their 40th anniversary, the housebuilder is partnering with Royal Voluntary Service in 2017, with the aim of raising over £130,000 in support of projects across the West Midlands.

McCarthy and Stone has been hosting fundraising events such as vintage tea parties and summer garden parties, and more events are planned for the second half of the year.

Martin Edwards, deputy regional managing director for McCarthy and Stone West Midlands, said: "The Dragon Boat Race was a fantastic event and we want to thank all of the sponsors who supported us on the day to fundraise on behalf of Royal Voluntary Service.

"40 years is an incredible achievement for us, we believe this is testimony to the quality and attention to detail that goes into the service we provide, and all of our developments."
